Pedestrians killed on South Island roads

Two pedestrians have been killed in separate incidents in the South Island.

A man was hit by a truck on State Highway 1, about 5 km south of Timaru.

Police say witnesses reported seeing the man walking on unlit passing lanes near near Normanby, about 1.50am on Sunday.

In Southland, a car hit and killed a pedestrian on the Mossburn Lumsden highway.

In Auckland, a six-year-old girl is critically ill in Starship Hospital after being hit by a car on Great North Road in Henderson on Sunday morning.
