Mayoral candidate proposes rotating meeting venues

10:48 am on 28 July 2010

A candidate for the super-city mayoralty wants the new Auckland Council to move its meetings around the region during its first three-year term.

Len Brown wants the monthly meeting rotated through the offices of the eight councils councils that will be merged into one.

Mr Brown says holding meetings from Orewa to Pukekohe will give residents a chance to feel connected with the Auckland Council.

He says his local democracy policy also calls for as big a role as possible for the 21 second-tier community boards.

The new council comes into being on 1 November.
