Police conducted armed raids on two houses in Auckland on Thursday in an unsuccessful search for a gang member who's becoming increasingly violent.

The Organised Crime Unit has three arrest warrants for Daniel Vae, 32, who is described as a dangerous man who has a 'P' habit.

Officers, backed by the Armed Offenders Squad raided houses in Mount Roskill and Grey Lynn between 6.30am - 8.15am.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark McHattie says they found a sawn-off semi-automatic rifle, a taser and a bullet-proof vest.
