Owner of mystery Roman bangle sought

Police in Palmerston North are trying to locate the owner of a Roman glass bangle, reputed to be about 2000 years old.

The blue bangle was handed in to police about three or four months ago and inquiries have failed to find the legitimate owner.

It is mounted in an ornate silver frame with an engraved silver plaque, and experts at Victoria University have dated it back to the 1st century.

Police think it's from the Waikato region and may have been taken from either a museum or a collector about 10 - 12 years ago.
