Foul play ruled out after body found floating

Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found floating near Miramar wharf in eastern Wellington on Thursday.

They have named the man as Ranchhod Patel, 57, of Wellington.

The head of the Wellington City CIB, Detective Inspector Paul Basham, says police have completed the scene examination and are continuing background enquiries.

He says provisional results of the post-mortem suggest that the man may have drowned and do not indicate any foul play.

He adds, however, that ultimately the circumstances and the cause of death are matters for the coroner to determine.
