Super-council work conditions lower than past councils

Management positions at Auckland's super-city are offering lower benefits than many of the local bodies being merged into the new council.

The Auckland Transition Agency, which is appointing the supercity managers, confirms that sick leave will be set at the statutory minimum of five days.

This compares with anything from ten days to unlimited leave at existing councils.

The agency will not comment further, but managers who have seen contracts say holidays are cut from up to six weeks annually to four, and there is no provision for redundancy.

Local Government leaders outside Auckland are concerned a widespread reduction in conditions means local government could struggle to hold top performers.
