Police in Taupo are seeking help from the public after what they describe as a cowardly attack on a man who was set upon by up to 12 young people in the town at 1am on Sunday.
The man, 28, was attacked outside Burger King in Roberts St. His head struck a stone ledge after he was pushed from behind and his meal taken.
Police say others then kicked the man while he lay on the ground.
He has been treated in hospital and discharged.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the attack or who may have been an innocent member of the group of youths.
