A man sought by police since he and his daughter went missing early last week has been arrested in Wellington.
Lau Leota, 41, appeared in the Wellington District Court on Tuesday on one charge of assaulting his daughter with intent to injure her.
Mr Leota dropped the seven-year-old back to her home on Friday but the police hunt for him continued and an arrest was made on Monday night.
Police opposed bail and Judge Bruce Davidson remanded Mr Leota in custody to reappear in court on Friday.
He is accused of punching his daughter in the face, causing a black eye and a nose bleed.
