Gang members in custody following Wairoa brawl

9:10 pm on 11 August 2010

The 24 Mongrel Mob gang members arrested following the shooting incident and brawl in the northern Hawke's Bay town of Wairoa on Tuesday have all been remanded in custody pending bail applications on Friday.

They are all charged with unlawful assembly.

They were to have appeared in the Gisborne District Court on Wednesday afternoon but all 24 gave their consent to being remanded in continuing custody.

The police indicated that they were strenuously opposed to them being granted bail until their ongoing inquiry is completed.

A detailed scene examination of the Mongrel Mob headquarters where the incident occurred has been carried out, involving a specialist search team and ESR staff.

The gang member injured in the face remains in hospital in Hastings.
