Wellington region bus drivers agree to pay rise

8:04 pm on 19 August 2010

Staff at GO Wellington and Valley Flyer bus services have reached an agreement with employer NZ Bus following months of pay negotitaions and strike action.

Members of the Wellington Tramways Union have accepted an 11.5% pay increase on their hourly rate and allowances until the end of 2012.

Union president Nick Kelly says the drivers' pay rate will increase by about $2 an hour.

Mr Kelly says Hutt Valley drivers will also be paid time-and-a-half for working weekends, which GO Wellington staff already receive.

However, he says while the union has had success negotiating with NZ Bus, no progress has been made with the employers of the Mana-Newlands drivers.

Wellington Tramways Union members working for Mana-Newlands services in Kapiti will strike between 4pm and 6pm on Friday.
