Cloak to be sold by raffle to help school

Auckland weaver Sylvinia Subritzsky has created a korowai (cloak) to help a school damaged by fire.

Ms Subritzsky says she wanted to help Mangere East Primary School after hearing about the devastation caused by young arsonists during Queen's Birthday Weekend.

She says she's made over 40 korowai over the years and has gifted many to schools to use as toanga for their kapahaka roopu or cultural group.

However, Ms Subritzsky says this one is being used to help with fundraising.

Waatea News reports a raffle for the korowai will be held on Friday. Most of the 400 $20 tickets have sold already.
