Super city boss acknowledges morale low during job upheaval

Staff turnover is rising at some Auckland local bodies as the date nears for filling thousands of jobs in the super city council.

Auckland Regional Council has lost 5% of its staff this year and says pressure created by merging eight councils could be boosting sick leave.

Nearly half of the 8500 local body workers in Auckland are still to find out in the next five weeks whether they have a safe job in the super city.

The interim chief executive of the new Auckland Council, Doug McKay, acknowledges morale could be at a low point but says he hopes the anxieties will subside once the new council is formed.
