5:24 pm on 26 August 2010

The Police Minister says she is concerned the Police Commissioner was not made aware of the appointment to a top job of a previously disciplined officer.

Detective Inspector David Archibald has been appointed as head of the Investigations and Intelligence School at the Police College in Porirua.

In 2006, he was disciplined for in appropriately accessing data during the trial of two police officers accused of a pack rape in Mount Maunganui.

Police Minister Judith Collins told Morning Report the Commissioner Howard Broad phoned her on Wednesday saying he was shocked about Mr Archibald's promotion.

She says Mr Broad told her he will investigate whether processes were followed correctly.
