Extension of blue cod restrictions not liked

6:05 am on 29 August 2010

A recreational fishing association does not accept a plan to extend restrictions on blue cod fishing beyond the Marlborough Sounds.

A blue cod management group is recommending the Sounds be re-opened to blue cod fishing next year, with a bag limit of two fish and a five months-per-year closure.

The Tasman and Sounds Recreational Fishers Association says the group has gone beyond its terms of reference by also proposing to extend the cod management area to include all of D'Urville Island and from Croiselles harbour to Cape Soucis.

Submissions on the proposals close on 4 October.
