Health board 'coping well' with four-day strike

The Counties Manukau District Health Board says it has coped well with a four-day strike by radiographers.

Radiographers, who do X-rays, images and scans, walked off the job at Middlemore Hospital and other public surgery centres in the district on Thursday.

The board's general manager of medicine, Brad Healey, says that, as is to be expected in winter, the hospital has been busy.

He says a number of patients have been sent to accident and medical clinics for x-rays if these were needed.

Life-preserving services agreements with the union covering radiographers have also been used, Mr Healey says, but everything has gone according to plan.
