Stories of Taranaki iwi in Australia to be recorded

6:46 am on 30 August 2010

A Taranaki historian is looking forward to recording the stories of Taranaki iwi living in Australia.

Honiana Love won an oral history award worth $12,500 from the History Research Trust Fund to allow her to do the mahi (work).

She told Waatea News it's part of a wider Te Reo Taranaki language revitalisation project, and it means she can reach members of the iwi who would otherwise be very difficult to connect with.

She said Maori are an oral people and talking face to face is the perfect format for the information to be collected.
