Supporters of a new museum in the Far North say a major charitable grant to preserve the region's archives is a godsend.
Pub Charity is donating $500,000 for archive facilities in a civic centre, Te Ahu, which is under construction in Kaitaia.
The grant is one of the biggest in Pub Charity's history.
Museum supporter Vic Hensley says the grant will ensure valuable collections, including fragile photographs and textiles, are preserved.
He says it is vital the Te Ahu trustees seek advice from professionals on how best to use the archive money.
