Curfew-breaker gets stuck in school building

12:32 pm on 2 September 2010

Police say a woman on home detention who said she was trying to get home ahead of her curfew became trapped in a Hamilton school early on Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the suburb of Enderley at about 2am by a woman who said someone was trying to break into the locked back door of her home.

There were then reports of smashing glass at the school next door, where officers found a woman who was unable to get out of the building.

They say the 35-year-old appeared to have been drinking for some time; she said she was on the school grounds trying to take a short cut home because she was on home detention.

Officers pointed out that her curfew began at 7pm and it was now nearly 3am. The woman was taken to the Hamilton Central police station.
