A judge has dismissed allegations that oil giant Shell ran a misleading advertising campaign for a fuel additive.
The Commerce Commission took legal action against Shell in Wellington District Court, laying 22 charges under the Fair Trading Act.
The commission took exception to Shell's advertising claim that its Fuel Economy Formula was "designed to take you further".
It argued the ad was misleading because tests showed it increased travel by less than 1%.
In Wellington District Court on Friday, Judge Mike Behrens said Shell's claim was literally true, and was not meant to be a comparison with other companies' fuels.
He said there is no evidence anyone was misled.
