A man who claimed to have a knife is in custody after the police spent hours negotiating with him during an incident at the top of Auckland's Sky Tower.
They said earlier on Sunday the man was in a harness on the Sky Walk.
An acting Inspector, Danny Meade, says it appears the man has immigration problems he wants addressed. He says mental health experts are being called in to interview him.
Fire rescue and ambulance staff were on stand-by at the incident, which began at 11.30am on Sunday, and police were controlling traffic around the bottom of the tower.
Federal St was closed during the incident but has now reopened.
