Rubbish to be collected as normal - council

8:03 am on 6 September 2010

Christchurch City Council says rubbish collection will continue as normal in the city on Monday, except for areas that are cordoned-off or closed to traffic because of flooding or road cracks.

Residents living in the central business district and approximately 15 other streets - mainly in New Brighton - that are impassable, should take their refuse to end of the street or outside the cordon.

The council says masonry and other earthquake rubble should not be put out for rubbish collection.

About 60 streets in the city are still without water and some pump stations are out of service due to loss of power or significant damage to buildings.

The council says about 200 people stayed in welfare centres in the city on Sunday night.

New Zealand Post says there will be postal deliveries as usual on Monday apart from areas where access is restricted.
