NZ, Australia top 'World Giving Index'

New Zealand has come equal top of an international survey of nationalities most likely to give time or money to charity.

New Zealand and Australia were first equal on the World Giving Index assembled by the British-based Charities Aid Foundation, with research from 153 countries.

Canada and Ireland were third equal, the United States was fifth and Britain was eighth. Madascgar and Burundi were last on the list.

According to the research, 68% of New Zealanders have given money to charity, 41% have given time to charity and 63% have helped a stranger.
