Lower Hutt police tackle firearms incidents

12:54 pm on 11 September 2010

Police say there have been a number of firearms incidents in Lower Hutt recently, where firearms have been presented and on two occasions fired.

Two men were arrested on Thursday night after an Armed Offenders Squad callout when the occupants of a house were threatened with a firearm.

On Tuesday night, a shot was fired at an Oxford Terrace property, hitting a letterbox, and shots were fired during an incident in Waiwhetu last month, police say.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell, of Lower Hutt CIB, says police have zero tolerance for such acts and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or worse.
