A man will appear in the Upper Hutt District Court on Monday charged with assaulting a man, who later died in hospital.
Kane Temarama, 26, had left a bar and was walking along Upper Hutt's Main St at just after 1am on Sunday when he was attacked.
Police launched a homicide inquiry after his life support was turned off on Sunday afternoon.
They say further charges against the charged man may be considered once the findings of a post-mortem are known.
