Consumer advocates and public health experts say measures to promote safe use of LPG cabinet heaters don't address the problem that they can make homes damp and cold.
A review from the Ministry of Economic Development has recommended better labelling and safety measures for the heaters.
Consumer New Zealand says the report does not acknowledge the moisture problems or emphasise how costly they are to run.
But the LPG Association says the report concludes that, if the heaters are properly used, water vapour is not an issue.
The ministry says it hopes that improving information about appropriate use of the heaters will minimise the perceived risks.
