Escort's former partner faces murder charge

7:11 pm on 21 September 2010

The former partner of Auckland escort Carmen Thomas has appeared in Auckland District Court charged with her murder.

Bradford Callaghan, 32, with whom Ms Thomas had a child, is accused of killing her and dismembering her body on 29 June.

Police have spent the past few days scouring construction sites in Auckland's CBD, but say they still do not know where Ms Thomas' body is.

Mr Callaghan, a structural engineer, made a bid for name suppression but that was rejected on the basis he has already previously spoken to the media regarding the investigation and his photograph had been published numerous times.

He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody for a fortnight.

Police say they are not ruling out further arrests.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says anyone with any information, including the whereabouts of Ms Thomas' body, must come forward.
