The Snapper payment system has added taxis to its service in Wellington.
The card is already used for bus and ferry tickets and small retail purchases in the capital.
Snapper has expanded into offering its system for food and beverage payments at events.
Chief executive Miki Szikszai says more than a third of people in Wellington now have a Snapper card.
He says integration with the rail system is a natural progression and the company also has hopes for taking the service nationwide.
