8:01 pm on 28 September 2010

A bag and a $1000 radio were stolen from a St John ambulance while officers were collecting a patient from an Auckland house.

St John spokesperson Viv Muir says the theft occurred in the suburb of Glen Innes on Friday night.

Ms Muir says that during a seperate callout, later in the evening, people threw stones, rocks and a hammer at an ambulance, and the thieves, who were listening in on the stolen radio, were heard laughing and joking about the incident.

She says police are investigating.
