Turoa skifield hopes to have its ski lift - is the longest in Australasia - up and running again by the end of this week.
The skifield's six-seater, 1.4 kilometre chairlift has been closed since last week, after a lift tower broke.
It is the second time in three months that a broken tower has forced the closure of the lift, which opened in 2007.
Mike Smith from Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, which runs Turoa and Whakapapa skifields, says the towers broke for different reasons, but in both cases Turoa's extreme weather conditions played a part.
He says the company is working with the lift's manufacturer to find a solution, which may include increasing the number of towers
