No change to kahawai catch limits

1:06 pm on 30 September 2010

Fisheries Minister Phil Heatley says there will be no change to catch limits for New Zealand's largest kahawai fishery.

The decision follows a review of catch limits for all kahawai fisheries.

The largest kahawai fishery stretches from North Cape nearly to East Cape and covers the fishing grounds of Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, Hauraki Gulf and the Bay of Islands.

Mr Heatley says he made a technical adjustment to the total catch limit but nothing will change on the water.

There will be no change to recreational fishing rules or daily bag limits and commercial catch limits will not change either.
