US funding for wave energy project

A New Zealand wave energy project has been awarded a $2 million grant by the US Department of Energy to deploy a wave-power device in the United States.

Wave Energy Technology New Zealand is a collaboration between Industrial Research Limited, NIWA and Power Projects Limited.

It has had a quarter-scale version in place off Christchurch and is developing a half-scale version to be in the water in 2011.
