Use of internet sites such as Youtube by students and academics has been causing problems for education and research institutions.
But this week there has been a solution to the issue.
KAREN, a high-speed network for research and education, is accepting Youtube traffic again after a break of several months.
Members had been diverting traffic off the network because it was congesting one of its links to Sydney.
KAREN members can now access Youtube content through a domestic connection with a Christchurch company, SNAP.
