Wellington leaders get first look at amalgamation report

Leaders in the Wellington region met behind closed doors on Wednesday to consider the findings of a report on the prospect of merging governance and sharing more services.

The $150,000 report by PricewaterhouseCoopers is still in a draft stage and was commissioned by the five mayors of the region's mayoral forum.

Forum chairperson Upper Hutt mayor Wayne Guppy says the report leaves some questions unanswered and it will have to go back to the consultants for more information.

Mr Guppy says the report's emphasis is not on Wellington becoming a super city, and it looks at where savings could be made and lost in sharing resources.

The report will be discussed at the mayoral forum in November before it is put to the councils in the Wellington region, he says.
