The ACT Party's new caucus member, Hilary Calvert, has been sworn in as an MP.

Ms Calvert has stepped into the gap left in ACT's caucus, following the resignation of its disgraced former MP, David Garrett.

Mr Garrett quit Parliament last month after revelations he once used the identity of a dead child to fraudulently obtain a passport.

In her maiden speech, Hilary Calvert told Parliament her work as a lawyer underpins her belief that the Government should provide fair and universal laws.
