The MetService lifted heavy rain warnings for the Buller ranges, northwest Nelson and Mount Taranaki on Sunday but says Wairarapa can expect severe northwest gales overnight.
It says wind gusts of 120 km/h are forecast in Wairarapa overnight on Sunday and Monday morning.
Wind warnings for Wellington and eastern Marlborough have been lifted.
