Unidentified Lotto jackpot winner comes forward

The winner of the weekend's $28.7 million Lotto Powerball jackpot has come forward, but their identity remains a secret.

The winning ticket - the largest ever Powerball win - was sold at a Mobil petrol station in Papakura.

The New Zealand Lotteries Commission says the winner has yet to officially claim the prize but has provided enough detail over the phone to verify their identity.

It will not say whether the prize was won by an individual or syndicate.

Fiona Wilton, one of four Masterton people who won a $37 million Lotto draw last year, says the new winner should avoid decisions - such as quitting work - straight away.

She also says they should be wary of people asking for money, which she says was hard to get used to.
