Tuhoe talks likely to take years - PM

Prime Minister John Key says he expects Treaty negotiations with Tuhoe to take several years.

Talks between the Crown and Tuhoe have now resumed, after they broke down earlier in the year when Mr Key ruled out returning ownership of Te Urewera National Park to the iwi.

Mr Key says the Tuhoe negotiations are extremely complex, and involve cash and issues around the national park.

But he says the Crown's position remains, and the Government will not transfer any national parks into iwi ownership.
