A $30 million highway bypass which takes traffic away from the Tasman Bay coastline has been opened to traffic on Friday afternoon.
The 10.7km road takes traffic inland from Mapua to Tasman, on State Highway 60 between Nelson and Motueka.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says the road has four passing lanes and will improve safety and reduce travel time.
