Police in Hamilton are investigating the violent aggravated robbery of a taxi driver early on Friday.
They say the driver picked up two men and two women on Victoria Street about 4am and drove them to the suburb of Forest Lake.
When they arrived, a man in the back seat put a knife to the driver's throat and demanded money.
Police say the driver, fearing for his life, accelerated into a driveway and sounded his horn, while grabbing the knife.
All the passengers in the taxi fled.
Police say the driver needed medical treatment for injuries sustained from grabbing the knife.
