The Clive community hall, near Hastings, was badly damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon.
The Fire Service says the blaze began at the front of the property shortly after midday and it took several hours to put it out.
Emergency services are still at the scene.
And firefighters are now at a scrub fire on the expressway between Napier and Hastings.
