Shipping company in receivership

6:54 am on 27 October 2010

One of the two shipping companies that service the Chatham Islands has been placed into receivership.

Black Robin Freighters takes millions of dollars worth of goods between the Chathams and Timaru annually.

Federated Farmers Chathams' branch chairman Tony Anderson says the other company, 44 South Shipping, will not be able to handle all those goods itself.

Mr Anderson says they are yet to hear what receiver BDO Christchurch will do now or whether the company will continue trading.

Annette King, the MP for Rongotai, which takes in the Chathams, says her understanding is that Black Robin will continue trading for the time being.
