Man accused of burying baby chooses trial by jury

A man accused of burying a baby's body at a Wellington property has chosen to have the charge dealt with by a jury.

The 21-year-old, whose name is suppressed, reappeared in the Wellington District Court on Friday on a charge of disposing of the body of a child with intent to conceal its birth.

His lawyer, Mike Antunovic, asked that interim name suppression be continued to protect his client's partner, the baby's mother, who has also been charged over the incident.

Judge Anne Gaskell remanded the man on bail to reappear in court on 13 December.

The mother will reappear in court next week.
