Hundreds of teachers have marched up Auckland's Queens Street in an attempt to focus on the positive contribution they make to the community.
About 500 childhood, primary and secondary school teachers and hundreds of children took part in the march.
The crowd chanted slogans such as "No Teacher is No Future" and waved placards, flags and balloons.
The march comes in the wake of recent strike action by secondary school teachers.
Industrial action affecting Year 9 and Year 10 students is expected to continue next week.
