More charges are likely to be laid against a driver following the death of one of two women hit by a car while on a garden tour on the Kapiti coast.
Shelagh Cotter, 69, was critically injured on Saturday when a stationwagon hit the parked car she was sitting in, throwing her from her seat, over a fence and into a paddock.
She died in hospital on Sunday morning.
Her 62-year-old companion, who had been sitting beside the car, suffered moderate injuries and has now been discharged from hospital.
The women had stopped on a grass verge at Te Horo, southwest of Otaki, for refreshments while on the garden tour.
A man, 37, from Lower Hutt has been charged with drink driving.
Police say more charges are likely to follow.
He is due to appear in the Levin District Court next month.
