The Auckland manager of Downer Construction is using kapa haka to keep his workforce happy.

Henare Clark from Ngati Porou has won a Walk the Talk Award from the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust for his management methods.

Mr Clark, 51, who started in the company's Hamilton yard when he was 18, says the workforce at the company includes people of many ethnic backgrounds, but they find a common bond through Maori culture.

"It's a really great sign that the workforce is happy," he said.
