Ambulance answering call hit by car

6:16 am on 3 November 2010

St John Ambulance and police are both investigating after a car hit an ambulance going to an emergency call in downtown Auckland on Tuesday night, causing it to flip.

There were no patients on board but the two ambulance officers received moderate to minor injuries.

The ambulance communications centre says the ambulance was driving through a busy intersection with its lights and sirens on when it was hit from the side by another car.

Part of Customs St was closed for several hours as police carried out an investigation.
