CTU wants 2025 Taskforce disbanded

The Council of Trade Unions wants the Government to disband the taskforce looking at ways to close the income gap with Australia.

The second report from the 2025 Taskforce repeats many of the recommendations it made last year which Prime Minister John Key rejected.

The taskforce says the income gap with Australia could widen - from 35% to 42% in fifteen years unless the Government makes further cuts to spending, taxes and red tape.

The Council of Trade Unions says the taskforce is rehashing failed far-right policies from the 1980s and 1990s and new ideas are needed.

However Business New Zealand says the recommendations are far from radical or outdated and the Government should consider them.
