Dairy worker dismissed under 90-day trial period

A worker dismissed under the 90-day employment probation period is a skilled employee who has been driven out of New Zealand, a union says.

Dairy Workers Union secretary James Ritchie says it is the first case he has heard of the employment clause being used to dismiss a dairy worker.

The man had committed to the Waikato farm, moving his family there and settling his children into a new school.

Mr Ritchie says the worker had been told he was doing a great job, but then the relationship with the farm manager and owner soured after he criticised what he says was abusive treatment of an immigrant worker.

Mr Ritchie says the couple has moved the family to Australia.
