Outrageous Fortune fades into the west

5:00 pm on 9 November 2010

The popular New Zealand-made TV series Outrageous Fortune, the country's longest-running episodic drama, has come to an end after six years.

The final episode of the programme centred on the West family of West Auckland screens on TV3 on Tuesday night. More than 700,000 people tuned in to the first episode of the final season.

South Pacific Pictures, which made the show, has sold the series to more than a dozen countries, and the United States and England have produced their own local versions.

But chief executive John Barnett says it has been the New Zealand audience that has enjoyed the show the most.
