Plea for return of rowing oars

The director of a rowing regatta in Whanganui is appealing for the return of seven oars belonging to high-profile New Zealand rowers.

The director, former New Zealand rowing representative Rob Hamill, says he was driving to the regatta on Wednesday when the oars fell off his trailer on State Highway 4, somewhere between Taumarunui and National Park.

He says the oars are custom-built to suit each rower, including former world champion Mahe Drysdale, and they should be handed in to police.
